Straight up: a visualisation isn't an end in itself – there has to be a real question behind it that it answers. And bad data drawn beautifully stays bad data; we sort out data quality before the design.

    What needs to be understood or decided – and by whom? A picture for the leadership looks different from one for website visitors. Without that question it turns into decoration.

    What's there, in what state, what's missing? Often the material sits in Excel collections, exports from specialist systems, or simply in people's heads – then preparing it becomes part of the project.

05Technical implementation

  • Bespoke visualisations are built with SVG, Canvas or Three.js, p5.js – tailored rather than an off-the-shelf chart.
  • Dashboards use proven charting libraries; they're embedded as a web component into existing or new websites.
  • The data arrives as a structured file (JSON/CSV) or through a small interface – with a preparation layer in between for live dashboards.
  • AI helps with preparing and structuring the data – the design and the judgement stay handmade.
  • Static diagrams need no infrastructure of their own; they're produced as a graphic or a web component.
  • For sensitive data it's embedded internally – behind a login rather than on the public website.
